Another thing, the DR board was to be more of a general board, as it was/is EZ. That means people could visit without having to register especially for that board. It would have been an addition to Gnet, not a usurpation.

You're right, the Fox-thing did have something to
do with things, if I remember rightly.

It always amazed (and humbled) me when people
paid for DR to continue for a year or so.

Times have changed though, and I don't think
a text-only web-board thing is enough anymore,
if only because broadband has become so prevalent,
and as a consequence, people have become more
multimedia savvy, and moreover, more multimedially
demanding, hence the Quicktime idea.

I think you're right there, D.
The lack of bells and whistles has always been a factor. That was another reason for the birth of DR. It's all a matter of choice; simple bare-bones, or functional bloat.

I think the multimedia features you're proposing sound interesting, considering the amount of interest the gmail drives attracted lately.

Cool. If we do do this DR V.2 thing, hopefully it'll
be justified in some kind of USP (unique selling
product) way. Maybe we can also incorporate within
it Raggitz's idea of revamping the Glitz-gallery,
but suavely, of course, with a quickly-downloaded
Flash production (or something).

Excuse me, but the limbo of Gnet, due to fallout from the Foxkids redirect episode, did spawn DR, as it spawned JJ's board, G2.

There was some arguing, plus some of the antics from a certain Ohio-based alcoholic caused a lot of trouble as well, but they were carry-overs during the crossover era between Gnet and $!_)({ .

I was not hoping to open old wounds, but I guess other people wish to. I will say this, there would be special forum for people who wish to be argumentative for its own sake, and if it would stray outside of that forum....

Hopefully enough people who are not familiar with the old wars from that other site would show up and help to prevent new ones from starting. I would trust the "old-school" Gnetters not to bring up that era except as a positive reference.

I think it's a viable proposition.

...and there would hopefully be aspects to it that are not available here.

Carry on.

The limbo was when Andreas's brother was no longer able to use his work's server, if I recall. Some months after FoxKids.

Whatever

A complimentary site to this one, as opposed to a competitive one, sounds fine, imho

I'd say it wasn't one thing in particular, but a combination of things. The redirect, the cross-board arguing, plus a few others. No matter.

Anyway, yes, it would be a board in addition to this one, not an attempt at usurpation.

A note: the next week and a half for me (academic
Easter vacation) is going to be spent on Spark
related stuff, and birthday bollox, so my creative
production (video encoding, etc.) for DR will have
to wait.

I'd like to hear some feedback first, though,
before anyone starts dedicating time to this.

E.g.:
What do people think is missing from other BBs,
music portals, etc? Is there anything missing?
Are they optimized for broadband? Are they too
broadband-centric, and dial-up people are be-
coming to feel more and more ostrisized? - almost
made to feel guilty even?

Are they too cliched? Are they too contemporary?
Would simply getting hold of the old Glitzinet
HTML code and reusing that (with a few multimedia
extra to help stimulate thread topics) be people's
ideal choice - because I can't see a reason why
Andrei would be precious about it.

There's plenty to discuss before investing a size-
able amount of time in it.

D.
